Lunchtime Poll with Amanda McKoy Flanagan

September 6, 2023 Joanna Monahan

In which I ask an author a bunch of ridiculous questions and a few serious ones.

This month I’m thrilled to be speaking with Amanda McKoy Flanagan. Her debut, TRUST YOURSELF TO BE ALL IN: SAFE TO LOVE AND LET GO, is an inspirational memoir about breaking chains of generational dysfunction by healing grief with love for self and others. Other themes include addiction/recovery and marriage/relationships (Full disclosure: I was lucky enough to get an early copy of this book, and while I do not have experience with many things she talks about in the the book, boy, oh boy, did the discussions about learning to love yourself and let go of your fears hit close to home).

Amanda is a New Yorker who now calls Colorado home (we missed each other by a matter of months, and I’m still sad about it). She is a wife, mother, a licensed social worker, and the founder of Castle Rock Clubhouse.

Meet Elisa!

I can’t think of a better person with whom to introduce this segment than my friend, the amazing Elisa Lorello. Elisa is a GenXer with serious 80s credentials. Not only is she a bestselling author, she is also an educator and Duran Duran superfan.

Welcome to a new feature in which I ask an author a bunch of ridiculous questions and a few serious ones.

*Yes, just like Heathers, minus all the murder-y reindeer games

Okay, Elisa, since ALL OF YOU is set in the music industry, today’s lunchtime poll is all about 80s music:

Lessons From a Launch

July 6, 2023 Joanna Monahan

Oh the weather outside was frightful
But Page 158 is so delightful
And since we’ve no place to be
Let us read! Let us read! Let us read!

On June 20th, despite a torrential downpour, more than forty friends and family members came to help me celebrate SOMETHING BETTER’s release day at Page 158 Books in Wake Forest.
